The condition of this antique roll top desk makes it unusable. All the original hide glue holding it together has failed and numerous pieces are broke and some are missing.
The first step is to carefully label all the parts. Next, dis-assemble and begin repairs of broken parts. Removing all old glue is very important.
The veneer is loose on the flat panels and must be re-glued. Never enough clamps.
Broken tenon is patched with new wood and clamped until the glue has cured.
Broken pieces like these drawer cross rails need new wood patched in to form the broken tenons.
The bottoms of the desk legs have some damage caused by moisture. Bleaching will remove most of the dark discoloration.
Dry fit all the parts before actually applying glue and clamps
